Croft Circuit to host Best of British Rallycross Weekend
Croft Circuit (Darlington) will host the PSM Motorsport Ltd promoted 'Best of British Rallycross Weekend' on Sunday July 6th. The event incorporates round four of the 2008 Rallycross Open Championship sponsored by Hi Spec Motorsport, round four of the 2008 Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship and round five of the 2008 Edwardes Bros MDA Rallycross Championship.
PSM Motorsport Ltd director, Peter Stott commented:
"During the winter months, PSM Motorsport Ltd invited the BRDA to run a round of the 2008 Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship alongside the 2008 Rallycross Open sponsored by Hi Spec Motorsport & MDA Rallycross Championship’s at Croft Circuit on Sunday July 6th. The BRDA accepted the invitation and we are delighted to welcome them to be part of this historic event in what will be day full of top Rallycross racing. At our last event we had 95 entries and we have had to impose a maximum number of entries for this event, based upon maximum grid sizes at the venue and the number of races we can accommodate into the one day schedule."

This will prove to be a event of significance as it will be the first occasion that the two main Rallycross Championships in Great Britain have run together at the same venue. Both Championships are televised by MotorsTV, while their will be additional coverage of the Open Championship on Channel 5 and British Championship on Virgin Media. The combined television package that this event is to provide will further increase the profile of Rallycross throughout the UK and Europe.
"For everyone involved, this will be a milestone event not least in the prospect of substantial TV coverage, which we hope will attract new audiences for Rallycross” added BRDA Chairman John Horton.
The organisers have had to restrict the maximum number of entries at the event to a total of 108 due to a timetabled 55 races during the day. All three Championships taking part at the event will run individual heats and finals throughout the day, which will be rounded off by the 'Best of British shootout' race.

MDA Chairman, Ron Watson added;
“ It is a great opportunity for all parties involved in British Rallycross to show the way forward for the sport in the United Kingdom.“
The special 'Best of British shootout' race will feature the top five Division 1 drivers from the Rallycross Open Championship and the top five Supercar drivers from the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship - fans will be treated to a first class day of British Rallycross action.
2007 Rallycross Open Champion - 'Mad Mark' Watson (Barnard Castle) stated:
"My main aim this season is to retain the Rallycross Open Championship title, but the event at croft in July will be a hectic one for me as I will compete in both Championships. It is excellent to get all of the top drivers from both championships together at croft and I intend to emerge as the best of the best on my home track."
Entries for the event close on June 20th 2008 and the following maximum entry restrictions apply per class:
MSA Supercar – 10
MSA Supermodified – 10
MSA Stock Hatch - 10
British and Rallycross Open Juniors – 16
Rallycross Open Division 1 – 10
Rallycross Open Super National & Procar 2000 – 20
MDA Procar 1600 – 10
MDA Revivals – 10
MDA Minicross – 12
Maximum total = 108
The top 10 competitors in each Championship are guaranteed an entry provided they enter by 20th June 2008 on the correct entry form, complete with entry fee. Drivers who currently lie outside of the top ten will be put onto a reserve list - based upon the order that entries are received. If a driver in the top ten of the Championship hasn’t entered by 20th June then the first reserve will be guaranteed an entry and so on. There will be a live entry list updated daily on a new website for the event to be launched shortly.
